Sports Premium Funding

The Government has recently announced a renewed package of funding for physical education (PE) and school sport. Through the ‘Sport Premium’ the Government is providing £150 million over three years to support the delivery of PE and sport in primary schools. It has now confirmed that this funding will continue until at least 2020.

This funding will be ring fenced, and will be allocated directly to primary schools across England, providing them with dedicated resource to buy in invaluable expertise and support. Funding will be allocated through a lump sum for each school and a per-pupil top-up mechanism. The formula will reference the number of primary-aged pupils (i.e. children between the ages of 5 and 11). From 2017, all schools with seventeen or more primary-aged pupils will now receive a lump sum of £16,000 plus a premium of £10 per pupil in years 1-6.

At Mullion, we are using our funding to enhance PE and Sport through buying into a service level agreement with Mullion Comprehensive School to work and learn alongside teachers in a cluster of schools. This will also provide greater opportunities for inter school competition for pupils across our school.  We have also purchased high quality resources, bought in different schemes of work which aim to give all children the physical literacy, emotional and thinking skills to achieve in PE, Sport and life. To ensure as many pupils as possible are provided with greater opportunities, staff members have been trained as mini-bus drivers to transport to events and competitions and money has been spent on specialists who have been able to deliver enrichment opportunities such as sailing for Year 6 pupils.

A member of staff from the Mullion Partnership will be working alongside our class teachers in supporting their PE lessons, competitive sport and team building skills through after school clubs and in school team development.

Below is an attached statement of exactly what we spent our funding on for the previous year (September 2016 - August 2017) to support the school in raising the quality of PE and Sport Provision. You will also find an overview on how this year's allocation and how the funding will be spent.
